I've always liked smooth bootlids and just wondering what's the cheapest/best way to do it?

how you do that?

I've had a look on my current boot and the outer skin is folded over the inner structural bit (nothing but technical terms here!)

how would you fix an outer skin? would i have to remove the current outer skin?

Want this done cheap too...would simply welding a plate over the current recesses and behind holes and things be any cheaper? Or is this a waste of time?

PM smudger and see what he has to say

taking the skin off is like oping an envelope run a grinder around the edge and remove the folded over bit and then lift off

i dont know how the new skin fits on , i guess it bonded but smudger will know

By fiberglass lid I think he means Changing the whole boot lid for a fiberglass one....

If you want to keep your secure boot, Your best bet for smoothing it would be to cut a steel plate to fit just inside the "enclosed bit" on the boot lid. Weld it on. Grind it smooth. then skim it with somthing. (Try to avoid typical "Filler")

Thats my guess anyway.

Was talking to an engineer type bloke i know and he thought it would be best to cut a line just inside the "enclosed bit" so that the new plate can actually butt up against the metal around the number plate recess, rather than sit on top of the curve.

I'd stick the number plate under the bumper and could easily bodge some lights.

I'd want an internal boot release to make it really smooth too! Do they do internal boot releases?

You could use bonnet pins? but wouldn't be safe then.

lol i think i'm going to convert mine to mk1 style at some point with the small chrome light below it rather that the bloody great grey light box! lol

They do yellow and black stick ons dont they? plates that is.
You could put one of them at the bottom of the lid and some how fabricate a light into the bumper/on the bumper seam? That'd be cool mot pass mmmm not so sure!

Smoothy GRP bootlids are about £40-£50, plus your spraying on top..
