Wouldn't bring the price down - engine change = bad, in insurers' eyes.

To bring your quote down... Buy a 998.

As you said yourself "beast" - 1275 Minis are pretty spritely (see what I did there) - you can do alot of damage to/with a 1275. Minis are also incredibly easy to steal.

If you're getting quotes of £1,400 you should be thanking the insurance companies and paying up!

New drivers cause the most problems so are the most expensive to insure, you're gonna be paying through the teeth whether you like it or not

Shop around (you could use TMF's search function to find "THE Insurance Thread" for a list of recommended insurers) and see what quotes you can get. It'd not going to be cheap on a 1275 Mini though, especially if it's modified. There are alot of insurance threads floating around, all new drivers pay alot for insurance.

Good luck >_<

Oh also, I'd wait until nearer the time to look because most companies won't guarantee a quote for over 3 months and premiums will change between now and then anyway.

Not necessarily, a quote depends on alot of different pieces of information. No arguments lovelies. :shifty:

I'm not trying to start anything lol

All im trying to say is that i originally got quoted £4500 (and that was for a standard 998 - mine had been modified) off various websites like confused.com! So i shopped around and got quotes of about £2000 then found a good deal with liverpool victoria for £1200 - Again for a standard car. Then after more shopping around i found insurance for £700 with all mods declared!

Shopping around pays off!

im 18 and i have a 1992 cooper with a stage 3 head and im paying £640 a year for mine, didnt think that was too bad!

check out 'bell.co.uk' and do a 'flexibell' quote then remove all of the nice things like courtesy cars and personal injury cover, that brings it down.

then add your parents as named drivers, (as long as they have a clean sheet) this takes it down by loads!

gooooood luck!!!

im currently on quinn direct as main driver of my 1990 mini 998cc mini and im paying just over £700 for insurance, so if you need cheap insurance go there if your a learner, because once you go full license instead of learner it goes up a bit lol.

Noooo :(

That's kinda useful if you're injured in an accident. Better to pay for the cover than pay for 5 years of physio, no? :)
