Battery Earth Cable

Anyone know a reason why my battery earth cable is so hot you can't touch it without it burning you?

It's a braided cable without any covering & 8" long going from the battery -ve to the boot earthing point.

it's drawing to much current

has it got a bad connection ?

check the battery lead, esp. around the front subframe

is the cable hot all the time or just after starting the engine ???
when engine is running does the alternator also get hot ??

As long as it's the correct size cable, drawing extra power isn't you problem. You have a high resistance (bad) connection which is generating heat at the joint and travelling down the braid. Check and clean the connections.
