Hi Folks,
I have now removed the gear gaiter. On removal I have found a separate part and wondered what it is. It is a metal collar with a grub screw to hold it on the gear stick. Can anyone tell me what this is for? It could be there to stop the gaiter falling down the stick?
If anyone knows please post a response - thanks!
Cheers, Giles

It could be part of a handbrake / gearstick security fitting ,its an aftermarket item .
i have one of them ,it comes with a kit and screws around the gearstick to help locate the gearstick end of the lock ,the other end fits over the handbrake ,so as to lock the handbrake on and hold the car in gear ,to deter car thieves .

Hi,
The metal collar is about 25mm OD and about 5mm thick, the small grub screw has an allen hex to tighten or un-do.
It looks OE to me, th eonly thing I thought it could be is a ring on the stick to stop the gaiter droping down in use. If this were the case it would sit inside the gaiter just below the chrome ring which is at the top of the gaiter. If you guys who have an MPI mini can feel this inside the gaiter at the top I guess it would confirm it or not. If it is the part I am thinking of you woudl be able to lift up the chrome ring on the gear stick but the part I am talking about would not move as it is grub screwed to the stick.
