I can't get my 1380 mini to stop running on, I've been messing about with timing etc but this only make a slight difference. I don't know what else to do, could it be plugs? mixture? The plugs are champion RN9YC. Any pointers would be great.

I would be interested to know what cam is installed.... If it's pretty lairy then i would suspect this is the problem.

It's not usual for the more 'spicy' cams to cause Run on - and unfortunately it's often the case that if that is the problem.. there's nothing you can do about it.

Failing this you could whip the head of and check that it's not coked up with carbon deposits,.. are you noticing a rise in running temperature?

P.S. have you had the car set-up properly on a rolling road?

My GT has a high lift cam fitted and this causes run on occasionally more so after a long hot run.
It was much worse prior to my rolling road set up.
Unfortunately not a lot you can do about it unless you resort to keeping it in gear and just lift the clutch slightly as you switch off.

Pretty sure it is a kent 286 scatter, with an MED utilmate road head. Going to change the plugs to bp7es might help to get rid of some heat. The head and pistons are all clean as the head gasket was replaced recently.

Mine used to run on a lot too (only just got mine back on the road and is not doing it now), but i was told that it might when i brought the engine (1380 with 286) I have been told that mg metros had anti run on valves fitted might be worth some research.

1990/91 Rover Mini Coopers (carb models) also had anti-run on valves fitted too.

I'm not really sure, but here is my 1990 Mainstream Cooper engine bay (before I cleaned it up last year) and the standard fit run-on valve is fitted just above/behind the servo: -

Yes the run on valves seem too work as well.
I have heard of two being fitted to get over the problem.
