Hello

the reason i ask is because i pealed up my carpet and checked out the front floor pan and it is all broken but not rusty. It is kind of like some kind or tar or resin that has solidified, a bit like the stuff painted over welds, but the whole floor pan is covered in it and its painted the same colour as the car. the floor pan itself is underneath is white and seems in good condition so not sure what it is really.

Yeah its just sounds proofing. I wouldn't say it weighs 10kg - More like 4kg.

With mine i found that some bits had chipped off and was trapping mositure in and causing the floor pans to rust - So i chisseled all mine out.

Have you scraped it all off, put it in a bucket and weighed it? I ask because the Forum has done so and there is a thread about it somewhere. Each panel seems to weigh about 4kg. Try buying a pack of it from a bodyshop supplier and ask about postage...

Mini Spares and Newton Commercial sell the soundproofing pads, so I don't know if it's the same type of thing?

When it's new it's quite soft and flexible, over time it goes hard and brittle, when mine started to crack and break up i warmed it up with a hot air gun and it all molded back together. Two years on and it's still not cracked again.

It can be bought in sheets off ebay, some are much better than others, and it's not always the expensive one's that are best.

the sound prrofing pads are different to the thick stuff poured onto the floorpans at the factory.

and yes it is heavy stuff when all chipped off - i weighed it once and it was quite a weight..

I can confirm that if you chip it ALL off it weighs around 10KG :) I made a point of collecting it all up and weighing it

I had to chisel that stuff off as i also had moisture beneath.
What a mission! But yeah, it was rather weighty...
Does anyone know if that silver sound proofing would work in the floor? Comes in rolls... That's pretty light.

Thanks tons, stuff seems rather pricey, but if it works... It's worth a shot :)
