The small bolt which holds the engine steady bracket to the block is broke! and i'm not too keen and confident with the idea of drilling it out and tapping a new thread while the engine is in situe. So i've been looking at the minispares engine steady repairs and was wandering whats everyones opinion on them? the one i'm gonna need is the one with 2 broken bolts and a breather fitted as they don't have one for just the smaller bolt broke.. i'm a bit weary that its not gonna be as good as the original!

or maybe i could get away with just using the 1 longer bolt that holds it to the block?

Well I can vouch for those steady repair brackets as their very good.

But if it's just the smaller bolt which has gone, then I don't know if it really matters.

Only problem is it may put more force on the larger bolt and cause that to break too?

Nothing wrong with these, they give you a far stronger fixing point than the original and a more solidly mounted engine just by virtue of spreading the load. I've used them on brand new engines with nothing wrong with the block's own mounting in the past because they are so solid.

You cannot do without half of the mounting.
