thats as it is, but put a stopper on your pedal so it is stopping against a bolt on the floor or something rather than the cable, or you will snap it.

nope - mine travels just the same as before?? I'm injection - maybe that makes a difference?

Mine's injection (2003) and the pedal travel is about 1/2 of a normal Mini setup

that really is bizarre - I'm pretty sure we did nothing special and we have full travel - its absolutely spot on. I'll ask John in the morning.......

i drilled a hole in the floor in the same angle as the pedal travel, then put a bolt through so i could adjust it.

That's what I did too
i drilled a hole in the floor in the same angle as the pedal travel, then put a bolt through so i could adjust it.
Just drill a hole 1 inch below original hole on the pedal, and adjust the throttle cable to the point when pedal will hit the floor

the sensible solution for me is to remove the pedal assembly from the car and carfully drill another 2.5mm hole about 40mm down from the existing hole .This will then cause greater pedal travel to open the throttle and should sort the problem giving me complete pedal travel when the throttle is open fully.
done it ! drilled another hole 40mm lower than the original and pedal travel has increased to about 80%
i might drill another hole and try again or just fit a stop to prevent cable breakages

its the actual cable throw thats an issue, due to the throttle being sensitive on a bike and mounted via a twist grip ,the cars pedal in its standard setup moves too much cable at once hence you end up with about half the required travel to open the throttle fully.

we used a standard after market cable fed through a mini outer sheath and a 'universal nipple' on the pedal end - been so long I'd forgotten about it.
cable came from a bicycle spares shop and the universal nipple was home made from a shop-fitting component I think.
John did drill a new hole in the bulkhead also by the looks of things.
you can just about see in the picture how it sits low at rest.

all is right with the world again.
OK, checked it over, my pedal sits at approx half normal height in the rest position and travels to normal depth on full depression.

I found without this every bump would cause eractic throttle action and also a lot easier to spin the wheels even on an A series!
I also added another return spring which also smoothed things out
you can see where the pivot point has been moved and the top part of the arm is shorter
still using this pedal on the BMW K head throttle bodies for the same reasons
