I want to fot a heated front windscreen, but due to owning an mpi which has the mirror attached to the windscreen, is there anywhere I could just buy the heater element strips from?

If not, could I fit a standard heated screen from Minispares and just attach the mirror somehow?

Im sure ive seen someone who bought thin elements that stuck onto the glass rather than in them. Not sure how well this would work though

Hi, i had this in my car about 5 years ago, must admit it wasn't brilliant in terms on staying on the screen and it does obscure your view a bit, but so does a misted up screen...
If you take care when putting it on it may be a bit more sucessful for you.
Also i think i took out every other strip to get a less obscured view.
Worth a punt for £30 in my opinion.
Other than that never had an MPi, so not sure if it's as simple as getting a different mirror. if its just a simple stuck on mirror i would get the minispares windscreen and just stick it onto that. thats all that happened when the windscreen in my ford focus went, the guy just stuck the old mirror back on.

Bugger, looks like I will have to fit a normal screen and find a way to fit the mirror. Any suggestions other than sticky tape?

couldn't you bond an mpi mounting block to your new screen? God knows where you would find one. Alternatively find a mirror of another model that just sticks on to the glass.

Saying that aren't the threaded bits still in the headrail of the windscreen surround? Unusual for rover to delete something from a panel pressing if they could get away with leaving it in-situ

Just buy a new suction fitting mirror. Halfords do them.

Aware I am reviving an old thread, but found it from searching so I'm sure others will too.

I have fitted a heated front screen to my MPI easily enough. The rear mirror slug isn't embedded into the original screen. After measuring its location for reference, I detached it with a gentle sideways "tap" with something heavy and reattached to the new screen with some proper glue. It's been there since 2002.

Now to do it again on my sons car...
