i shouldnt see why not, you have to cut the bulck head though to fit the turbo in, the 998 will rev higher that a 1275 as the stroke of the piston is shorter, just got to watch the big end bearings as high reving with bust them

Yes, but no means is it an easy job.
You will need a lot of parts from an MG Metro turbo, turbo, carb, plenum chamber, fuel pump, fuel pressure reg etc. You will need to weld a bulkhead box in (assuming your going for a T3), and a return feed into the fuel tank.
Depending on which 998 you have, you will need to lower the compression and strengthen engine components.
Wil_h has a 140bhp (iirc) 998 so it proves it can be done successfully.

In short, yes. There's no reason why a 998 cannot be Turbocharged along the same lines as a 1275 etccan turbo be fitted into my 1liter mini thanks ????????
Though if it's for a road going motor i certainly wouldn't bother with the T3 Turbo on a 998.

surly a t2 would be better for either... may not be able to take as much boost as the t3 but it'l spin up quicker and make a better usable power...
just save up for a completly new avonbar engine 1293 ect ect

T2 is deffo the way to go on a 998.
and a 998 Turbo will not necciisarily rev any higher than a 1275 turbo. mine has max power at 6000rpm which is not a high reving engine.
The biggest problem is finding decent pistons.

If you want 2nd hand parts then keep an eye out for a Metro Turbo setup, these come up on ebay and mini forums quite regularly.
If you want new stuff, then the Mirage setup is the way to go.
Best thing to do is have a read of Tuybo Phils website, the installation process for a 998 engine is exactly thr same, just a smaller engine.
I can't help you with the differance between a T2 and a T3, you'll just have to find some photos and teach yourself.

I've been thinking about putting a turbo on my 998, can anybody give me a rough idea of how much i'm gonna be looking at spending (parts only) as i'm on a real tight budget and theres a lot of other stuff to do to the van

I reckon you've got to be looking at £1000 to £1500 to do a decent job.
