Looking at fitting some alloy wheels to replace the std steel wheels on my 87 city e
Probably want 12 * 5's
What is ET off set?
What should it be for a set of alloys?

Straying too far from the original offset can be detremental as fouling to the suspension and bodywork can occur as well as eccess strain on wheel bolts or studs

you are probably looking at needing rims with an offset of around ET-19 to ET-21 with arches or about ET-30ish without arches.
there are some offset values in the link below to give an idea, the ,maximum ET I would say is usable is ET+7 which is what superlite 7x13's are.

Oh also. thre is usually a massive amount of confusion over offset figures,
ET 0 is a rim where the mounting face that contacts the hub is exactly halfway between the two points (Beads) where the tyre seats.
If the mounting face is further towards the car side of the rim than the outer side this is a negative offset, negative offset rims stick out further.
all the mini production (and most aftermarket rims) are positive offset, but the - often gets left off confusing the issue.
