Model: Equinox (1.3i spi)
Year: 1996
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

Hi All
I'm in the process of replacing my fuel filter and all the parts you see in the picture (I'm assuming a) it's not been changed for a while as it's very corroded, and b) it would fail a MOT because of this?). Basically just asking is there anything I need to be aware when it all goes back together again - ie always use new hose clips etc???? - I know the filter needs to go the right way, but after any snippets of info ....... does it take the car a while to get going again if the pipes are empty of fuel, and should i grease anything???

i think its looks like the fixed pipe with the bit of flexi hose going to it needs to be replaced as i would imagine thats what it failed on for the corrosion on the fuel line . i always replace the clips as due course and like to just clean up the hosing for the filter and give it a quick coat of paint to help protect it from further corrosion but if your replacing you should si regard the above
.
If you have an electronic pump for your mini ( SPI / MPI models ) what i do is just turn the car on 2 or 3 times without engaging the ignition so that the pump engages and fills the system just incase of any pockets ( leave afew minutes between each try as the pump wont cut in directly after doing it beforehand if that makes sense ? ) however if you dont i am sure there is a million and one ways people would recommend but myself i would open the choke up as if cold starting and give the car a couple of flicks on the ignition until it fires and then set the choke accordingly and it will just fire like normal after the petrol has work through .

An SPi Mini won't have a choke though.

Oh and this information might prove useful for when you select the new fuel filter: -

thanks for the links taffy, I've got a WIX WF8064 filter from DSNClassics (up the road from me). Looks ok - it was supplied by my description, but I'll be going back tomorrow for other bits and will take my old one to confirm.....

I need to get hold of items 9 and 13 as soon as possible so I can get this job done - any help very much appreciated!!!!!

Somerford mini are closed until 5th jan, so just seeing if anywhere else has them. Minispare and Minisport don't have any pics of these and not sure if it would be correct???

I've read on another site that there is a fuel filter that is the same physical size as the SPi one, but has hose pipe connections rather than the screw thread on it so you don't have the problems with rusty pipes - apparently available from Halfords?? Has anyone heard of this and if so what are your experiences, and anyone know the part number??? Is there anything 'special' about the mini fuel filter, or would a similar one suffice??

think i might start a new thread with this as this query might get lost....
