got a cigarette lighter socket today to wire in a GPS, but it doesnt say which should be the positive spade? Is it the centre pin, or is it the outer shroud? Anyone know? Cheers!

straight down in the centre in positive.

And fitted it too, behind the dashboard so no little scrote see it and breaks in to chav the satnav....

were did you get the cigarette lighter socket from??? ive searched on google but all i can find r the ones with three sockets on, i just want a plain one. also does it have a light around it to spot it??

you can get them from your local motor factor (halfrauds,A1 motor parts)


oh... and the ones i've seen while passing in halfrauds do have the small glow ring.

i got mine off ebay, i have taken the glow ring off mine, and fabricated a bracket to fit it under the dash out of the way, so its accessible but still tidy and hidden

Well, Sorry to steal this thread a bit, but it seems a little pointless making a new one.
I recently got a ciggy lighter, and it came with a wire attached a outside bit, that was red.

then it had a bit for a female crimp which i guessed was for earth. so i wired it up as so, but the outside bit just got really hot ove time, but the inside bit didn't get hot at all really, have i wired this the wrong way around or something?

The outer shroud is the earth, and the pin in the bottom is the posotive.

have you wired it in so it lights up at night?
i have the same one and somewhat see little faith in getting a merely decent illumination from it

would like to know how yours does?

lol they shud illiuminate fine my sat nav wirirn is hidden in dash as is the bracket lol i didnt want any wires hanging down

i was thinking of taping tin foil around it to help direct more light to the ring as i don't see the point in glowing a small area behind my dash green
