Can anyone give me the basics on rehoning bores.
None of the various manuals around seem to cover this subject in any detail.

The background is the existing bores are smooth and within tolerance no lips and deep scores,
but the origional hatching from honing is all but gone.

Most of the available tools seem to fit into a powerdrill, but to be honest it has to be a bit more technical than that, surely?

Are you fitting new rings? If the compression was ok and you're using the originals there's no need to hone the bores.

also when re-honing the bores, you should use some sort of fluid. Ive seen oil and brake fluid used, but cant say if thats the correct way or not.

Brake fluid would be the worst thing ever. It's mega corrosive. You'd end up with rusty bores...definite no-no!

Your best off using 2 stroke oil for honing a bore

The compression wasnt special and the gaps were way off, so new rings seemed to be in order.
As we're raising the C/r to 10.1 i thought it would be best to freshen up the whole lot.

Thanks for the help.
