Moning all,

hope everyone had a good xmas >_<

I want to change the bootlid seal on my '89/'90. Can I fit a later one that pushes onto the body, rather than the one I have that clips to the bootlid itself?

Which is best at sealing?!

Cheers

Yep had a great xmas on your seal the clips must have 26 small drill holes is that right as that is a very early boot seal?

Hi mate, not too sure really, I can't see any clips because the seal on the bootlid has been glued in place >_< Just want to replace it so it's properly watertight! (is that possible on a Mini boot?!)

you actually have the wrong type on your car. the boot lid type are for early cars, yours should have the body type fitted so yes it will fit and it will work better >_<

when fitting a new body type seal you will find that the boot becomes quite a tight fit and needs a good deal of pressure to close.

if your new one is so out of shape that its not sealing then its not really fit for the job and should not have been sold to you :P

I've added a few pics so people can get the orientation of the seal correct >_< (and its always nice to have a couple of pics :) )

Nice one thanks Anorak, does it actually work?! I'm sure most boot floors/battery boxes rot out because water sits inside them >_<

I've got the same type of seal and my boot generally stays nice and dry.

I've sprayed a load of Waxoyl into the battery well just in case, so after 18 years that's still in good shape.

actually, most boot floors rot out because the water gets between the 3 layers that make up the bumper lip (rear panel, boot floor and rear valance)...

and most battery boxes rot due to friction rubbing the paint off, battery acid and/or the fact that they have two great big holes in the bottom of them.

a new boot lid seal will work (well mine did) but they dont last forever, they are constantly being crushed and eventually the springiness of the rubber goes and they start to leak :( i guess the same could be said for the old type :dontgetit:
