why do this, as in my steering rack thread, i've spent ages fixing the rack and now seeing as the bonnet hasn't been closed for a few weeks it has decided it wont shut? are there any general faults with the bonnet catches? it seems to move ok and sit in the right place but for some reason when you push the bonnet down it wont engage? any ideas at all? as its really dissapointing to finally fix the car and have something really simple/stupid ruin it!

It could be the part attached to the bonnet (the spike thing) is bent and not going into the bonnet catch hole.
That some times happens with my mini.
If thats the probelm you can just bend it back to the correct position.

technically called the "Dogs knob"... and have you actually undone the bonnet from the hinges, if so, it may also be slightly missaligned..

Is the spring still there?
(Just below the catch, should be connected to the catch and the front of the car near the grill)

I believe that the spring has a screw in it, if this is tightened up to much then the catch cannot get hold of it, try losening it a little and see if that is better. If it does catch but the bonnet sits to high then tighten it down a little.

I've not really had the chance to take a proper look at it yet but I think the spring is still in place, its what I first thought as i've had it happen on my golf. you might be right james, think it'll be a grill off and watch it closely job, good to hear that the height is adjustable.
