Hi, just a quick one. Need to know what distributor I have to order magnetronic ignition. It's a 998 engine with inertia starter motor if this helps.

Thanks, Rich.

Alternator or Distributor? Title says one and the topic another.

Anyway it sounds like your on about your dizzy. It should be stamped on the side of it probably underneath years of filth. It will say something like 55D4

Lucas 45D4 is most likely if it's got points. It could be a Ducellier though. Have a look at one of the online parts suppliers thry look quite different - Ducellier has the condenser screwed to the outside.

Not a ducellier then. It does have point's, Is there a noticeble difference between the 45D4 and the 23/25D?

Thanks, Rich.

home now and got the haynes out. future reference for anyone else looking.
theres a list in there of all models and years, stating which dizzys and giving the code. its hard to find when its mucky but mine was stamped just above the cast writing LUCAS. its hard to see so a bit of panel wipe and a torch might be useful. i losened mine and rotated it aswell, but then mines not timed properly yet.

mini clumban 1100, 1098 cc, 1976 on:
Lucas 45D4 - code 41418 or 41793

i have a what looks like a 45d4 from looking at my restoration haynes, numbers on the dizzy read: 41882A 59D4 -> 5187 so leads me to beleave its a '59D4' however the number stamped non the body does not match any listed!!
after having just bought an electronic ignition thingy to replace points and condensor my question is will it still work in my dizzy???
sorry for hijack, will re post

yep just had a look myself in both of my haynes. '69 to '82 and the '69 to '01. doesnt appear in either of them, nor does the 59d4 dizzy. so i assume that it wasnt fitted as standard. not sure where that leaves you and how it affects performance. but im sure someone else can fill us both in.

as for the question about the electric ignition, im new my self having only ordered one on friday. so cant shed much light there.
would probably be useful to know which kit you bought. theres also another post somewhere about electric ignitions where dan posted a huge amount of info on them and how they work. i'll see if i can dig it out, because i've posted in it too.

i cant find it. but dan is deffinatly the man your after. i've no doubt he'll have an answer for you.

The important part is '59D4' which indicates the type of dizzy :-
