Hi Guys,

I'm fiddling with my rear brake bias (split front / rear system). I've installed a MS72 adjustable brake regulator/bias valve in the rear of the car and am having difficulty trying to figure out which way to turn the thumbscrew to increase the rear brake bias. When I had the car up in the air (on jackstands), it seemed like neither full clockwise or counterclockwise changed the effort with which you had to apply to the rear wheels to turn them appreciably when the brakes were applied...

I know I saw an exploded / cut-away view of this doohicky in Miniworld on Minimag, but can't find it.

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers,

Aric

I'd think screwing it in will give more rear brake as that should compress the spring more requiring a higher pressure to close the valve.

You can use a rear bleed screw to to see if it's working: if the valve is closed the pedal won't sink if you slacken the screw. It will still squirt though so be on your guard.

The only one I have seen is the one from David Vizzard's book (see below).

hmm....does the picture disagree with clockwise gives more rear bias? I see how clockwise wou lput more pressure on the spring, but...

Clockwise increases spring pressure which means it takes more line pressure to close the valve so clockwise = more braking effort at the rear.

I had a similar unit fitted to my old Mini back in the 80's but if I remember correctly it had single input and used both outputs, one to each rear wheel?

I have mine plumbed as a splitter to each rear wheel from the rear master cylinder (split cylinders, KAD bias box).
