Hey,

Finally brought Charlie out of hibernation this week and rembered why he went in the garage last year. Had a significant oil leak and my mate kindly renewed the driveshaft oil seals and the gearbox shaft oil seal last year (with a kit from minispares). It slowed down a tad but was still enough to concern me.

It still looks like to me that oil is coming from the gearbox rod change oil seal as its dripping from the little gaiter. My mate told me he couldn't fit the alloy sleeve that comes with the kit so maybe that could explain why. But see attached (apologies for the poor quality) pics - oil is dripping from the sump also. I've checked everything from oil filter housing, dipstick, top half of engine upwards and just cant find out where its coming from. The engine hasn't run for 12 months so its not as if the oil has splashed onto the sump.

Any ideas where this could be coming from?

Cheers,

Carthy

There seems to be some oil coming out from the the output shaft area aswell, could be your driveshaft seals or the Outputshaft cover (Name?) gasket. Yes it would seem there is some oil coming from the Gear selector seal.

No, because most rod change Minis already have the alloy sleeve fitted and trying to fit another would be a bad move.

I've heard of people fitting two rubber seals though?

Perhaps the new rubber seal has failed already?

Or replaced incorrectly :- need to be careful otherwise you will destry the rubber flap thing that goes round the rod

Yes that could be the problem here.

Rubber flap thing? Is this part of the rod and not part of the sel kit?

'Gunked' it clean yesterday and now should be clearer to see where its leaking from. Ordered a new seal kit and going to have a dig around.

Yes you can put 2 rubber seals on the gear selector shaft, thats what I did on one of mine and it cleared up.
Although there is a modified seal kit available. There also seems to be a little bit of oil on your diff output shafts. These don't cost alot and arn't too difficult to change either.

Cheers for that - I'll have a tinker this weekend, and have a stab at the diff output seals. Thanks!
