Hi All

With the many different types of grease used on a mini, is there one which will 'suit all purposes' ? Just wondering if you just had say, bearing grease this would suffice for other things as well???

Off top of my head pretty sure its Castrol LM I use for pretty much anything with a grease nipple.

Wheel bearing kits come with grease as a rule

CASTROL LM GREASE
Stock Code: 58190
Castrol LM is a smooth lithium based grease. It contains hydroxystearate soaps which combine properties of good low temperature pumpability, good resistance to mechanical shear, ability to operate at moderately high temperatures and excellent water and corrosion resistance.

Castrol LM is well proven as a chassis grease. It is also a good wheel bearing grease for use over a wide range of temperatures. It is suitable for most other automotive grease applications within its specified operating temperature range.

Saying that for anything like nuts and bolts and threads I coat them in copper grease.

Use LM grease on pivots, suspension and wheel bearings..... but not on CV's or pots which must use High temp Moly Grease (the black stuff)

Use Graphogen or other graphited grease on the clutch mechanism.

Common sense perhaps?

The Mini Haynes manual has a section at the front detailing what grease goes where.

LM grease is fine for both wheel bearings and suspension grease points. Also for the handbrake mechanism and wiper system. Never get it inside a brake drum or on brake shoes or pads or any other friction lining.
