1991 Cooper running a 1989 1.3 metro Carb Engine

The car pulls well through all the gears but whenever I get to around 2500 RPM it seems to stutter slightly if I keep on through to 3000 RPM it smoothes off again what could be the problem? feels like its either getting too much fuel or not enough and the car kinda 'moves' slightly forward and backward

Its not too annoying in itself except when in 4th at a nice cruising speed the engine sits at almost exactly 2500 RPM then it is annoying!

any help is appreciated

Cheers

Rob

Sounds like a flat spot?

Is all your electrics in good shape and does your carb dashpot have oil?

Electrics are pretty decent now and the dash pot has oil

I do think its a carb problem though because after giving it some beans down a dual carriageway or motorway when you come to a stop the revs fall right off and it nearly stalls if i depress the clutch straight after going about 60+ MPH the car will probably stall

what do you think?

I know its desperate for a rolling road and for the carb and timing to be looked at, would this cure the problem?

Sorry to hi-jack, but Ive got the exact same problem, only I only get a slight judder (as if too lean or rich) at 25k in 3rd while booting it, if Im gental, or in 4th, it doesnt do it.

ATM Im running with no air filter! Ahhhh! But its the only way I loose bad flat spots, Ive got a host of stg1 needles from everywhere, the only one that comes close is the one that standard albit honed (pre stg1)

Its annoying if your stonking about, and then U pull up to a round about, dip the clutch, an the engine drops to dead rmp, if ya ram it into 2nd, it screams to life! I hate doing it, but its the only way of not stalling. Also top up dashpot oil all the time, I think the carb is drinking the stuff.

The cars all timed up, and mixture as good as can be without RR or CO2 jobby.

Try more dashpot oil. Might be leaky like mine, and need more. How I stop mine leaking??
