hi just a curious question i was in halfords today and was looking at petrol additives..like redex which apparantly cleans thru your engine from the muck if you know what i mean...would you say its worth giving it whack just out of sheer randomness lol?
Redex does work, just be forewarned for some smoke or lots of "dirt" (being polite !) to come out of your exhaust. ( depending how dirty your insides are ! )
Also, sometimes makes the engine a little rough.
My old man fitted redex as a drip on his cortina when I was younger that was operated on a pull lever in the car. When he pulled it it shot a load of redex in the mix and made the car smoke like hell. Was funny for us ( not for people behind us ) until he got pulled !!!!!!

Things like Nitrox Hot Shot and NOS Power Boost don't work!!!

I use redex in Minx and find it makes a difference. But she only runs off Sheel Optimax and BP Ultimate.

I've noticed a difference on Optimax. But less so on the BP fuel.
I'm thinking of using 'flushing oil' when I do my oil change shortly - comments?

You're supoposed to use engine flush when you change the oil anyway.I'm thinking of using 'flushing oil' when I do my oil change shortly - comments?

This is a case of maybe / may not be ? But my sister used the flush when she did the oil change on her mini mayfair and less than a month later her head gasket went ????
I think some things are great for cleaning out "new" cars/engines but with the older ones....... it may be a bit of dirt thats keeping them together !! lol
I just say use with caution
PS. What do you think of my paint of my roof then ???

have tried it on mini - and not noticed a difference an similarly on my 106 / 206 Gti's.
PERSONALLY - i just make sure everythign is in good condition (plugs etc) and have an inline fuel filter to stop crud coming up (actually i have 2, one in boot and in between pump and weber).
So go for it it won't do any harm.
As for oil flush - never do it myself unless i had noisey rockers or tappets. But I also judge by the state of the oil that comes out

Engine flush is good as long as you use a quality flush. My other half stocks some at his garage and its really good. Its about £18 a pop but he swears by it.
Make sure you use the right Redex for your engine!
yeh no worries thanks

Don't put it anywhere near your Mini if it has a cat fitted because it will kill it and as you have a 1275i (according to your profile), then you'd better check.

Can't you get redex for newer cars with a cat fitted then? Taffy what would it do to an injection engine eg what would the symptoms be? Well surely it could bugger up the cat? Much like if you used leaded fuel I'd say?
