will do the work myself, got 10 working days to get the re-test done at half price, so will be busy this weekend, nothing in there that's terribly difficult

did some work on Sunday, my new best friend, Mr Metal Cable tie helped me with the CV gaitor, I re-adjusted the rear brakes and got the screen wash to work. It was a mix of no water and a hose come off, which also explains the water we had coming into the car when we put the new engine in as we moved the water bottle temporarily out of the way which must have dislodged the pipe.
All that remains now is the headlight (tonight, when dark) and the carbs. Though the tester said if it was only the carbs it would be okay.
Re-test is booked for Wednesday morning ... wish me luck

not really, I adjusted the light last night and it started first time, I then disconnected the battery and left it. This morning, reconnected the battery, tried and it just would not start

long time no write ... tides have turned a bit again, so I now have little time to do anything with Cecil
on the plus side, I have an MOT! took a bit of work but got there in the end, so now I need to sort the oil leak, replace the steering rack gaiters (dangerously close to failing the MOT on that) and then enjoy driving ... probably next year

After I got the MOT done I started having problems which meant I had no reverse gear, simply could not select it ... so back to the drawing board it was ... first Christmas had to be dealt with though.
Alec came over and we took the engine out today. He had an idea what the problem with reverse could be, turned out it wasn't that so we brought the gearbox over to his house for him to play with it. We also took of the gearchange thingy from under the car so he can try to make a modified bracket for it in order to fit the exhaust properly.
Oh, and of course we also took off the timing chain cover to hopefully fit it back without a leak when it all goes back together.

so, it's all back together. Turned out the problem was the gear change mechanism and the way it was mounted to the underside of the car. After we stripped the gearbox, replace a few bits and bobs and put it all back, reverse still did not want to go in. Playing around, we discovered that with a few washers it suddenly did go in.
Just in case anyone is interested, Alec fabricated this mounting bracket

and welded this bit of steel into place

We also managed to fit the centre exhaust
