After Plenty Of Head Scratching And Umming And Arring.

I Have Decided To Revert From Injection To Carb, For The Pure Fact.

-Fuel Econemy Is Better.
-Tuneability.
-Reliabilty.

I No its A Step Backwards In Many Cases, And Understand About The Emmisions Testing For The Age Of The Engine But Surely Can I Not Reregister My Engine As Carb.

Thank You.

All three statements are false.

My fuel econemy is great, 40+ mpg
Tuneablilty, 84bhp from a standard spi system and its not been rollered since the new head.
Reliability, not had any reliabily problems with the systems just wiring problems but thats expected from a old car.

You will have more problems as a carb with how it runs.

Injection cars are easyer to tune... No rollers, no needles - just plug & play.
The limiting days of the Rover ECU are over...

For reliability... Both systems need proper maintainance.
Maintainance makes reliability, not the system itself.

My opinion... :-

But if you feel better with a carb,
go for it (if it is legal. Here it is an absolute no no).

My Little One Has Been Playing Up All, Stalling When I Stop All Sorts I Think Its Lambda Sensors Which Have Snuffed It, My Poor Old Cars Sitting Out Side Doing Nothing Cant Get It Started, Idleing All Over The Place When I Do Or It Just Dies.

If I Can Fix That Then I Wont Change My Spi.

All That Stuff Look A Little Complex, Is It As Simple As Plug And Play ? I Have Heard About Them Units There About £400pound. Well The Sme In Euros To.

I Just Think The Injection System Can Become Tempremental. but i spose carb can to

i love my cooper SPI,and cant see why people go on and on about changing back to carbs, each the their own i suppose, having owned several carb minis this was my first injection,no messing around with the choke, crossing fingers that it wil start, touch wood ive had no major problems with my SPI,other than old wires e.t.c which you can expect!

I Spose This Could Be A Phase Because My Spi's Nackerd.
I Havent Got A Clue Were To Start, Im Baffled.

New Plugs, Dizzy, Cat, Ht Leads.

Checked All The Sensors.

And It Wont Start. And The Cat Go Red Hot To.

I Have The Standard Air Box On And Its All Gravey Just I Havent Got A Clue Were To Start.

If your SYSTEM (a couple of things affecting each other and belonging to each other and working togehter) is shot,
NO other ECU in the world can cure it. The reason I posted this was to show that tunability is no longer limited by the factory ECU.

Again: a SYSTEM (definition obove) works, if any part of it works.
Is there a weak part, the whole system is weakened.

Curing an issue with a single(?) problem by replacing the whole system for another is pointless.

Do you have anybody with knowledge about injection Minis near you, you can ask for help?
I'm quite sure someone on TMF is able to pay you a visit and look after your car.
Maybe costs you some beer...

You seem to know not much about al the technical stuff, do you (oh, and that's realy not meant to be offensive in any way! :- :shifty:?
I think your best bet is to get some real-life help then.
It might be very complicated to search online for the problem, if you get me.
Especially on a car that seemingly wasn't looked after for a long time(?).

I'm a hupe fan of carburettion - but it's an very old fashioned system to be honest.

Good luck! It might look complicated, but at the end it isn't.
Just needs a bit courage to put you hands on

Regards,
Jan

Ring the AA or RAC then.

If your car was a carb with the same problems of it not starting how would you get it there then?

No Car Electrics Isnt My Strong Point Prefer Engine Work LoL, The Woman Before He Had Alzimers She Had It Since New.
Theres A Decent Mini Garage Ml MotorSport Down The Road And Vickers Coach Works A Few Miles Away So There Is A Chance Of Something Working Out.

I Take Good Care Of The Car Changing Oil, Plugs, Belts. General Car Maintence Is High Standard.

Just When It Comes To The Wirey Bits Im Up S**ts Creek. With Out a Paddle.

But Good Idea About The Asking On The Forum.

ml arent just good theyre excellent imo. maybe give them a call and see what they say and suggest. maybe someone will come round to have a look or charge you a little to have the min trailored there. never had an injection system but as the others say. changing it all to carb isnt the way to go about solving the problems.

and carbs arent something that you tune up and they stay great forever. mine was always getting nigley problems, its just minis and old cars.
