New Coil

I've just bought one of the Britpart electronic conversion kits to replace my points because the damp has really been affecting my car. I want to up grade the coil too, will a Lucas sport coil be ok?
Thanks!

From what I know of electric points, they tend to die quicker if you use a "sports" coil on them.
I run mine with a sports coil fine...
That's cool, thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure because I worried that it'd have too many ohm's or watt's for it. Because the sites says it's designed for the standard coil. But as long as you haven't had any problems I'm sure it will be ok.

The coil will make no difference unless you increase the plug gap. I'd try increasing the gap with the original coil first, if you can get the gap up to 32thou without any problems I don't think a new coil will offer any advantage.
Once the HT voltage reaches a certain level it will jump the plug gap so if you want a bigger, higher voltage, spark you need a bigger gap. The coil only becomes an issue if it can't generate enough voltage between one spark and the next - bigger gaps and higher revs causing problems are the reason to look for a better coil.

What year is the car - ballasted ignition?

I'm not 100% sure if it is or not. The car is '87 and the engine is around that time as well.

The Aldon Ignitor conversion which is very similar to the Britpart states it works with sports coils, but can't find any info on the Britpart unit..
I'm running my Aldon with a Lucas non-Ballast sports coil, have fitted the Britpart to two other cars and they both run find with standard coil, with standard plug gaps
Even with electronic ignition it isn't a cure for damp weather problems, only cure for that is to stop the damp getting to the leads and coil.

Should be ballasted on that year, easy to check are there two wires going to the positive on the coil one should be white/pink

Have you found any difference between them? I was going to get the Aldon kit but I couldn't tell the difference.
I have one of them plastic covers to attach at some point to cover the electrics too. That should help.

Britpart £12.87 inc postage compared to around £70 for the Aldon, if I was buying today I'd get 2 of the Britparts, one on the car, one as a spare.
About only difference between the kits is the Aldon you use the standard rotor arm, the Britpart comes with its own special rotor arm. And yes fit the cover, A cover over the ignition system is only thing thats worked for me stopping bad weather running.
