Excellent Gav !!!!

It's wonderful to see that the switch appears to be available again. GraemeC on this board found some at the Holden web site but they wanted more than twice the price that MS is now charging. However, if you find MS doesn't actually have stock of these switches do post back and let us know.

Just to be clear, the Mini with remote shift never used that switch as stock. It was standard fitment to the ADO16 variants like the Austin America. You can indeed use this switch on a Mini (I did) but you'll have to add wiring to support it as the harness/loom doesn't provide for it. (Switched power into one side of the switch, a reverse lamp with earth connection wired to the other switch terminal).

The link below is to a picture on my friend Todd Miller's Austin America web site. The picture shows the switch installed just below the oil filter on the front of the engine/gearbox.

The link below is to a schematic I drew up for the switch and its related components. If you read the MS part description for the switch you'll see that some of the related parts are not available. In my sketch you'll see the dimensions and descriptions of those parts. You can use the sketch to find or make similar parts to use the switch on your remote shift.

Good luck and have fun.

10 in stock atm. As Lawson said if you fit a remote box to a late car it's not a problem, just extend the wiring. If you fit reverse lamps to an early car you'll need to add the switch (on the pedal i mean) and wiring.

The switch replaces the Detent Plug on the front of the Transmission Case. You will also need the Plunger, Pin and Spring as seen in pic 2. A 12 Volt feed to one side of the switch, and the Reverse light lead to the other side of the switch. When Reverse is selected the shift rod pushes the plunger onto the switch contact ball and closes the circuit .... sending power to the reverse lamps.

ok so when you say the detent plug, is that the bolt i can see on the front of your case from the picture with the coper washer? does it simply just put the spring and plunger in and it will work then? thanks shane

Yes, the plug with the copper washer. It is removed, and replaced by the switch. IIRC the existing spring and plunger need to be removed, and the switch style plunger, spring and pin are put in the hole. I notice that my switch pic does not show the pin, the pin rides inside the spring and is pushed by the nub end of the switch type plunger.
The existing plunger does not have the nub that fits into the end of the spring, so you have to find the proper hardware to operate the switch.

Okay, just did some research. You should be able to use the existing plunger and spring, the only thing you are going to need is the little pin. I'll see if I can find one in my pile-o-bits and measure it.

Okay, found one. The pin is 12.85mm long X 4.7mm DIA. So 13mm X 5mm will work. Hardened steel of some kind. I'm thinking a needle out of a needle bearing would work if you can find one the correct length and diameter.

Go back and look at the second picture link in my first post.

All the parts you need are in that JPG. The JPG also has dimensions for the parts so you can find something similar if you can't find the correct part numbers.

Pin fits inside the spring.
This was copied from the MiniSpares switch description:
Regret that 22G351 plunger is not available at this time DEC2007 but it is purely a piece of dowel 0.463 thou 11.7mm (just under 1/2")long and 3.4mm or 0.136 thou wide.
