>_< Hi i have had my mini (spike) for about three months, it has alredy had a tough life considering it was only made in 1996, last week i had no battery in the morning after driving the day before so the natural asumption was that i had no battery...so i then bumped started the car with success and drove the long way towards work so the battery was charged. several hours later when work was boringly done i couldn't start my car.....again the classic was bumped started. however every morning when i either go to college or work there is again no battery, this is a new battery by the way.

Today was different however as i had be drinking the night before i stupidly put the live cable on the earth side on my battery, smoke then began to come out of my bonnet and the horn came on, noticing that this should never happen i checked the leads and noticed my mistake. i then tried to start my car the correct way. SUCCESS!!!!. However the car then would cut out whenever the cables were taken off, this was stopped when i reved the car. Should i just drive a while so some battery can get in?

The only thing is i don;t want make more damage by driving it, or should i try again when i hasve a new battery or will i need to check the elctrics? :P

Sounds like you've fried your alternator, and sounds like it wasn't working well in the first place either.

get it running with a new battery and measure the voltage across the terminals... if youre alternator is working (which as retro10's said it sounds like its not) you would get 14+V >_<

Im Taking Its An Spi.

When You Say You To The Cables Off Was That When You Were Jumping The Car ?

If You Disconnect The Battery Whilst The Engine Is Running It Wouldnt Run, Due To The ECU needing The Power. I Didnt Mean To State The Obvious Lol

But Yeh Sounds Like You Have Fried Somthing Along The Lines

Thanks guys, i have tried the alternator and have found that the problem is the electrical wires connecting the battery to the alternator and my local mini spec is coming tommorw to fix it, thanks again.
