Well here is my project thread for Frankie, my confused littel Mayfair.

I bough him 3 years ago for the pricely sum of £100, but alas he had no mot or tax...

Posted Image

But he was a 998 auto and that simply wouldn't do - so i aquired a 1275 engine and all bits and bobs i needed, so out with the auto Posted Image and in with the 1275 manual Posted Image

He wasalso quite bashed about and generally unloved. So i set about replacing all the bent / rotten panels with some others I got nice and cheaply from an ex rally mini

Posted Image

From here not much happened, but his was evicted from the inlaws drive as they sold their house - so i moved him to my parents garage wherer i set about stripping him down ready to visit the bodyshop and restored to his former glory.

Posted Image

Once at Full Circle in Marden I spent a week off work learning to weld and making it a solid shell before they hepled me panel him up again.

Posted Image

Much welding was needed, mainly the shock absorber mounts, the passenger footwell (which i put a hammer though) and 2 patches below the rear screen. He had already had sills replaced and flitch panels so in relaity he was a very good shell.
The second hand door was full of filler so a new skin was ordered and fitted.
Posted Image Posted Image
I also set about welding up the sunroof hole, only to warp the roofskin and totally fubar it >_<, but a phonecall to curley fibreglass secured his genuine rover roofskin that had been used to make moulds for CF roofskins - and at only £100 it was a steal.

Fast forwarding about 3 weeks and his was in primer, to be rubbed firstly with 400 wet n dry before doing the whole car again in 800 (que bleeding fingers)

Then after 3 weeks of pestering the chaps about painting him (the aim was L2B 2007) and by now it was February 07!!

But they told me they were having problems etc and needed me to "pop in" - i was ready to

When i arrived i found this:
Posted Image

All painted in Chilli red and Ford Panther Balck  he looked the westies testies!!

So i set about putting him back together after work every night.....

Posted Image
engine back in

Posted Image
new rooflining in (what a truly horrible nasty job - thanks for the help mum )

Posted Image
me working away on some wiring i think

Posted Image
engine back in...... but i wanted a weber on there instead...
Posted Image

Whislt it was all in bits all the suspension bushes were replaced, subframes hammerited and general maintenane to try and ward off any future nasties.

The time then came for MOT - i was worried (much)

So here he is at my uncles garage awaiting MOT..........
Posted Image

Sadly the emissions were sky high, so my uncle fettled with it whilst ion the gas analyser, but sadly not an ounce of rear brake pressure :(, but no fear we sorted it at the MOT station and he was patted on the bum and sent home with an MOT............................ only to run out of petrol 3 miles from y mums :( (busted fuel gauge + untuned weber = 12mpg )

Anyway all was well, he was ready for L2B2007 i was well chuffed!!
.
.
.
.
But I only got to Crawley and the 2nd hand Weber I had bought carked it so he was taken home on an RAC lorry. The following morning a spanking new Weber was purchased, fitted the following weekend and then taken to BD Engineering in Sittingbourne. An hour and a half of fettling and much revving from inside the workshop and he came out with a very pleasing 67.9bhp!!

Big thanks to Peter and Jimmy at Full Circle Bodyshop for their help, patience and excellent work on him and continued help.

My mun and dad for putting up with him in their garage (mums brand new car spent 6 months on the drive )

Huge thanks to my uncle (NW Autos Limited) for all mechanical help and workshop space.

And biggest thanks goes to my Wife for putting up with it, im sure the 2 dogs and 2 cats are her way of balancing things but there we go, even when we flew to St Lucia to get married I was worried about Frankie as I broke a valvespring on the way back from MOT and we landed home 4 days before L2B 2008 - so you know what i was doing the day we got home - whipping the head off
