I've seen a Paul Smith mini being advertised on ebay and on a classic car website;

http://www.carandcla...o.uk/car/C74461

Anyone got any experience of them? They seem to hold there value and this one seems cheap, no! That age of mini is one of the worst to buy is it not?

Anyone any views or comments?

Looks like its been well looked after and the price isnt to bad (had to read it twice!!) nor is it that far from me

they seem ok i think there essentialy the same as the later MPI's that came out but this one obviously is the more desierable one as theres the Paul Smith collection
I know BMC are giving one away at bingly hall on the 25th might be worth a look on their site and see what they can tell you about them.
might also be worth waiting till someone who knows more about the later minis replys ;D Good Luck

The Paul smith is another limited edition mini bought out by Rover.

1.3 Mpi Its quite a nippy little mini.

Rodders has one.. hes trying to keep his as standard as possible... but also mentioned that the price of his will have dropped dramatically and said would be worth around the 3k mark now.

The later minis tend to rust very quickly, being a limited edition doesn't make it an exception.

As with all minis when buying look for the common faults.. the only difference with this mini to other Mpis is that its been made a limited edition using the Paul Smith name and will have a few different features to the car..

It will still rust the same and run the same as a normal Mpi.

Edit: just reading up on it.. its not Purple its Paul Smith Blue with hints of Lime green used for the front grill badge, dash glove box interier and boot lining kit.

I'm looking for something older and maybe a clubman but it caught my eye. W&P are selling one with less miles for £5K, noticed it in this months MiniWorld and thought the one advertised on ebay and classiccars seemed very cheap. Maybe not given the current climate.

Your right though they are just a special edition mpi and will rust just like the rest of them.

I dont know what type of mini to get. There's a nice clubman on the classiccar website for £1600 and its completley original and there's a nice MK1 for £4000, nothing in Scotland though which is useless as I dont want to travel miles to find out the car is a shed. Might be worth an e-mail though.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes a Paul Smith LE is a cracking little car and my niece owned one for a few years. Even the HT Leads were Citrus Green (although their no longer available in that colour now, thanks Rover/BMW).

Anyway I might be poor sighted, but I can't see what the mileage is on that example above?

I used to have one, it was great. They were the first MPI brought out by Rover and its when BMW were involved with Rover so they are very refined. Geared more for top end though. Be careful though as they'll be rusting about now.

No they weren't the first MPi brought out by Rover, the Paul Smith LE was launched in the summer of 1998, where as the MPi type Mini was introduced in October 1996.

And BMW got involved with Rover back in early 1994.

I had one from almost new bought from Rover in Chiswick. Drove all the way from Exeter to buy it after I saw it advertised in the Telegraph at a ridiculously low price. Imagine my horror when I got to the garage to find a completely different price on the windscreen! To their credit they told me they'd mistakenly advertised it for the cost price (showed me the invoice) but still sold it to me at the advertised price. I kept it for about five years, taking its mileage from 3000 to 53000.

No breakdowns apart from a clutch slave cylinder going. Rust had started to appear in the usual places by the time I sold it although I had fastidiously waxoyled the underneath and arches. The car was lovely and the interior especially so and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a well kept example. My local garage serviced both it and my mark one mini and I remember him remarking on the difference in build quality between the two in terms of gauge of steel and quality of components (not in favour of the Paul Smith!) Of all the limited editions this is my favourite so go for it if you like the look of it!

By the way, both the Paul Smith and my mark one got sold and were replaced by a low mileage mark two in what my other half calls 'district nurse blue' - my favourite mini of all those I've owned so far!

and i think im right in saying that i may have bought it off simon through ebay.

i had the front end fully replaced with heritage panels, lots of new chrome, even had the wheels overhauled.
i kept it 12 months, sold it, then bought it back a year later, then sold it on again.

its the one on my website - www.classicminisforsale.co.uk

paul smiths are one of my favourite minis - only 300 made in the blue colour for the UK market.
the green bits add great character.

as for the one your considering £3k is probably top money for one with 78k and no major bodywork replaced
