Hey everyone,

I'm thinking of converting to 10's on my 1998 cooper and was wondering if anyone knew about the quality of the mini sport brake kit? Basically i just want to make sure that i will be able to stop just as well as i would of with my stock brakes. Also is there anything else i will need to be able to convert to 10's that doesn't come with the kit? Or should i be looking at something else?

Cheers :D
Ethan

the 60's cooper s had more power than your mini and stopped with the same brakes as in the kit

I spoke to mini sport about these the other week, basically if you've got 8.4"'s they supply all you need to convert them!

No probs! Also they guy reckoned there wasn't much performance between the gen and oem versions.

Got the conversion kit from Minispares which will be the same, and it was a fairly simple job and they work really well. The only problem i had was one of the brake discs sticking on the hub, when the castle nut was tightened due to rust and muck on the hub.

blackbelt1990 on here has this kit,he has a '91 cooper.

i fitted it for him and it all went together nicely with no problems, he says they are really good brakes, well worth it. i have original cooper S brakes on mine, and they are pretty much the same!

Both Minisport & Minispares do kits, minisport is ahead on price (£230.33 compared to £276) but don't know about difference in quality.

All that comes in the kits are;

2 x cooper s 7.5" discs
2 x 7.5" cooper s calipers
2 x cooper s drive flanges
2 x cooper s drive flanges (and screws)
Set of pads (minispares are kevlar)
caliper split pins.

Minisport do an upgrade with 4 pots and 7.5" cross drilled discs (so you would still need to buy the flanges, about £45) for £314.05 plus the £45 = £360, so another £130.

No problem, don't forget, become a TMF+ member and get 7.5% off at Minispares!

I'm told that the minispares flanges are of better quality especially the upgraded one's for about £1 more (EN24T steel rather than en8).

Depending on what the condition of ball joints, Cv joints, bearings etc are then this kit (with 4 pots) is pretty good so I'm told, not cheap though.
