There seems to be quite a bit of talk about plugs today for some reason and was wondering:

why does no one seem to recommend Champion Plugs? Are NGK generally felt to be a better product?

I always feel the urge to run my minis with Champion plugs will this have any side effects as I am about to go and buy a set tomorrow to take with to my rolling road session on Friday afternoon up at Mini Sport

Maybe its just wanting that old school flavour Champion Plugs, Duckhams Oil, Fram Filters and Dunlop tyres! awesome

It's essentially up to you, The quality of both NGK and Champion are pretty consistent. I know some people who fit Champions because they're a good old British company,.. which seems quite fitting to Put them on a good old British car.
Quite possibly it is because NGK are a much larger company than champion.. I really couldn't say

It will have no side effects if you buy the right plugs for your engine,... in your case use Champion N9YC recommended for Carb models.

All fine and well trying to be patriotic, but i think you will find Champion is an American company and Albert Champion himself was french :D

i used to know about 10 people who worked for champion, they didn't even nick plugs from them so that tells you something.

go with bosch

Thats interesting as I thought Champion were a British company until they were bought by Federal Mogul? (I think they also own Ferodo) I believe NGK are a Japanese company originally and still are?

The attraction to Champion for me is the history of the company and its connection to Mini throughout its many triumphs...plus its logo is better than NGK!

Bosch thats also interesting because my Renault seems to like Bosch plugs and that always works a treat.

I will go for the Champion plugs I think, I have NGK in the car at the moment and the plugs are essentially fine so I will keep them as back ups in case my new ones go south.

Cheers

Bosch every time. Have used them in most of my cars (Subarus, Golf GTIs etc) and now use them in the Mini. Never had a problem with them and a good healthy spark!

I'd say it's up to you as mentioned above.

I have used Bosch, NGK, Champion, and Autolite. I have no real preference. I grew up using Champions in British cars and Bosch in Germans. It wasn't unitl I had my first Japanese car that I saw Denso and NGK plugs.

I only use NGK these days, I change them every 12,000 miles and I've not had any problems with them at all.
