I have absolutely no idea where to start. I will be honest with you.

The Engine in there was done by a cowboy and it ideally needs to be rebuilt completely. I would like to do this myself and do not need the car for anything at the moment so I have plenty of time.

I just need to know basics. Such as how can I tell if the turbo is in good condition? Second gear is a pig and it keeps slipping so I can sort this out when its out as well, But things like the Dump valve, Intercooler fitting etc.

Just need peoples advice, Tips etc.

(And I have looked on Tubo Mini before you all point me that way :ohno: )

Just after some advice thats all.

Sounds like a lot of work Gal, sure you still want it? :fear:

Turbo- check for play, a little is ok but not too much. Look for cracks etc.

Dumpvalve needs to be tig welded into the plenum. Idealy like this:

Intercooler is pretty simple, so a search on Turbo Mini's and you will find all the info you need to know.

 Got a spare engine with it.

I would rebuild it from that but that looks like it has been lying in his back garden for a year before I got it.

Its a real smart looking car but the bloke I got it from is such a cowboy. I found a spark plug being used for a sump plug :ohno:

I'm gonna get a unit and put it in there for a couple of months it needs a complete re-wiring, Engine Rebuild, Some Welding on the sill, and the front brakes are noisy so I would imagine that there f**ked.

But here is a picture for you to see what I am working with: (Thats my old mans backside you can see :P )

Gorgeous looking Paint Job, mate.

Its a beautiful paint job, but the underpinnings are f**ked, I bought it really for the shell. 2 spots of rust thats it.

But I have to admit I floored it on the way back and I don't know how fast it was going but it was quick and it pulled like a train.

and this is with it running C**p.

I found household electrical wire running through the car, Spark Plug in the sump, the front brakes are knackered, the Dump valve ain't working properly the car shakes like C**p when you put your foot down.

It needs work but it definately will be running again before you know it.

I love it :ohno:

Car looks nice ! Good luck with the rebuild.
See if you can pick up an old Haynes Metro manual as this covers a full gearbox rebuild, unlike the later ones which don't. It also shows all the underbonnet connections for the Turbo engine bay etc

Phil. :ohno:
