along time ago when the engine was running and still in the car >_< whenever i revved the engine i would get this horrid noise coming from the region of the gear stick

now i panicked at first thinking something was wrong with gear box but it would happen when in neutral and clutch pedal pushed down all the way

now when removing the engine i did noticed the bracke that held the bottom of the LCB to the gearbox was a little loose

im hoping someone can tell me it was this vibrating harshly from reving that caused the noise but if not has anyone got any other sugestions...obviously i cant test things out as engine is not in car

but all ideas are welcome

thankyou in advance

p.s. i was going to try the search feature but for the life of me cudnt think what to type in it

"weird noises under reving" didnt strike me as working :dontgetit:

well the engine is connected to the gear box, if the engine moves then the gear stick will

Seatbelt bolts hitting the exhaust. This is what i get when i dont use a washer on the seatbelt clip bolt - The bolt screws in far enough to touch on the exhaust and rattle under certain revs.

hmm...sounds plausable...however this noise happened out of nowhere and i had not tampered with seat belts prior

am i right in hoping its nothing to do with the gear box seing as it made this noise in neutral and with clutch pushed to the floor

It could be the centre exhaust mount gone as this gives a knock/rattle from that area depending on what the exhaust hits.

Check the engine for movement give it a good rock and get someone to rev it while you look under the bonnet. Also get underneath and check all the exhaust mountings are fine.

Once you've excluded those things it gives us a better indication of whats going on.

I think youhave already mentioned the problem.
If the exhaust bracket was loose then once the engine was revved it would cause the bracket to vibrate.
Tighten the bracket when the engine is refitted see if that helps.

It could be those Cotton Reel Rubbers that attach the Rod change box to the Shell, they could be a little shot and the engines vibration is is going into the linkage and not being absorbed by the rubbers.

For what it would cost and while the engine is out its worthwhile changing at least the exhaust mount and as said above the selector mounts, you might want to change the steady bushes etc as well just to firm everything up.
