Hi guys, I've always wondered about my girlfriend's mini as it has a 998 block in it but it's a 92 reg, so I wondered if it should have a 1275cc...anyway, a quick check with the DVLA says it's a 990cc?!?! And that year of manufacture is 1992, but date of first registration is 11/08/1993... am I right in thinking this could have been imported from somewhere? It's also got a funny grille, but that could always have been added by someone aftermarket... anyway, here's a piccy, I can't get the VIN or chassis number atm as it's about 80 miles away :'(

thanks for your help in advance

Mark

Could be someones changed the engine, and put 990 on the form by accident, or it was misread. Looks like someones slapped a new grille on it too!

If it's imported the registration certificate will say so.

There seems to be nothing wrong with the dates. Just because the car was manufactured in one year it does not mean to say it will be sold the same year. I think every mini i have ever had has been made a year before it was first registered and i have had minis that date from the very early 70's to the 90's. I guess there were a whole heap of minis that sat in lines just waiting to find a new owner! >_<

Well the DVLA vehicle enquiry site has it down as 'multi-colour'?

So whoever changed it's details, probably made the mistake of registering it as a 990cc instead?

Anyway the Mini City and Mini Mayfair were the last Minis to have the 998cc engine and that was up to some time in 1992.

Then the City was renamed the 'Sprite' and both that and the Mayfair were then equipped with the 1275cc engine.

So your girlfriends Mini is just a late registered 998cc Mini. If it's got velvety type seats and a rev counter (plus opening rear quarterlights), then it's probably a Mayfair. Plain seats, fixed rear windows and no rev counter means it's a City.

Mine is the same, manufactured in 88, registered in 89. Confuses the insurers when you have a car manufactured as an Austin but sold as a Rover.

Thankyou taffy! It's a city then  Perfect, you're very helpful.
