Model: Designer

Year: 1988

Ive just taken my fuel tank out today, and my lights, and i have found 3 wires which arnt connected to anything. Ive looked in my haynes manuals but cant find the answer.

I have marked the wires in question with colourd tape.
The green tape is arround black wires, which i assume is earth. But i would still like to know what is ment to be plugged into them. They both have 2 wires going into one connector.
The blue tape is arround blue/yellow wire, there are 2 wires going into one connector.

The left hand side in place:

The other green labled wire sits in the same place but on the drivers side.

Thanks

Chris

Well I know I've got a few spare wire connectors behind my N/S rear lamp and I know that their for the added option of a N/S rear fog lamp.

Or for export models, that's the side that comes connected to said fog lamp.

I'm not sure what the other wires are in your picture though?

the reason i ask is because every light works (well did before i took them out anyway), and there doesnt appear to be anything missing.
I do have a fog light, number plate light/s and know which wires they connect too.

i just have no idea what these wires do.

The fact that the blue/yellow is the same colour code as your fog lamp conection should point you in the right direction. It's a colour code, as in the colours mean something they aren't just random. The blue/yellow you can't identify is for a near side fog lamp, as said above by Taffy. A near side fog lamp is optional in Britain so you don't have one but the car is wired for it. Canadian Minis have a completely different wiring harness so I don't believe it's for any Canadian fog lamp but it might be for Sweden, to be honest though I think Britain is the only country that requires a fog lamp. Black means earth and the two earths you can't identify are also for the foglamps, one each side. If your fog lamp works without this earth connected someone must have earthed it directly to the body.

Autosparks are the only place I know of off the top of my head. These are called Ripaults 'church window' type connectors and they went out of production for a while, since then I've only seen them at Autosparks. Look them up under connectors on their website, not under Mini. The housings won't be black, they'll be clear so don't just look for black ones.
