It only comes on when its needed - Like sitting in traffic on a sunny day. Maybe the engines not getting hot enough?

where have you fitted the thermostat? as mine was fitted in through the bottom hose of the rad and always worked fine! although the thrmostsat switch has now broken so its constantly on unless i disconnect it under the bonnet!

if it has an adjustable thermocouple/control box id check if its set to cut in at the right temperature and the usual check the wiring to the relay and thermostat for a live feed etc....... ive fitted a few of these fans to landrovers and always been told to insert the thermocouple into the pipe which is at the top of the radiator.....

yeah mine goes in at the top, i have had the switch on cold and hot, i am thinking that if the thermostat bulb wasnt in the water it wouldnt give a hot reading so it wouldnt engage??

Could try putting the bulb in a pan of boiling water see if it kicks in.. least you'd be able to see if it actually works.
