Looking for some 'sound' advise. I've a 15" Orion Cobalt CO154S sub, which i was looking to instal into my MIni.
Ive been talking to Andy at Optimise, and he's advised me that it'll take up all my boot space! I didn't really want to do that, but i will if its worth it.

My question is: In a Mini is a 15" sub overkill? For the people that have done it, what's a 15" sound like compared to smaller subs 12"s and 10"s? Is it worth the sacrifice of loosing boot space?

I like my LFO. The last instal i had was in my old 205GTi. I had two 15"s in that and i loved it!

Any help or advice welcome. >_<

Well you don't have to loose your boot, the Sub Original Kit doesn't use the 'recommended' box size for 10 and 12" subs... we could put the 15" in a smaller box, but you will loose sound quality, and don't think you will have much boot space still after I have made a box big enough for a 15" sub.

and your about to get told that 10" is overkill in a Mini... but that's from people who don't like bass!! you obviously do if you had 2 x 15" and loved it.

A 10" or 12" in the Sub Original Kit is gonna do nothing for you!

Dude, dont say that. Im going to have to find a way to fit the 15 in now.

I've been advised my my audio guru, that a small box will damage the driver. Im think 12".... no Im not it has to be 15". Oh crap, I dont know what to do!!!!!

More thinking needed!

a 10 or a 12 will do fine. really it wont make that much diffrence. ive been progressivly setting up and changeing a system in a system.

we have a resonable component system running off an amp.

The 12 inch sub is running off the same amp in the boot.

we tried it with a second amp and speakers in the rear but it was pants so we ripped them out.

we listen to all sorts of stuff.

All depends on what sort f music you listen to. a 15" sub will be better for long deep bass, whereas a 12" or 10" are mure punchy.

I have toyed with putting my 15" in the mini - Its a Kicker comp C - that I carried back from that states. It drives the hell out of my scoob, and the only place it will fit is on the back seat of my mini. Its currently in an 85 ltr box but I have a 65 ltr which fills the back seat of the mini perfectly.

At present it bounces a coin of the boot lid of the scoob - I fear it will actually push the screen out of the mini.... so at present I havent attempted it.

Bass for me has to be low........ very low, I love it when it runs through the car, trembling and juddering its way up your spine. I love it when you feel the hair on your neck prick up, and the hair on your head move, when it really starts to drive.

Thing is - its needs balance, I cant just run - a 15 - 2 6's and 2 4's - theres not enough in the middle and I think the 15 on the back seat will just over power the whole thing. It wont fit in the boot....

If you can get your 15 in the boot and run say, 8's under your seats, 6's on your back shelf (with out interferance) - 4's and components up front, you should get a good sound, but again its a blend and mix of sounds to get the clarity.

Let us know how you get on.

Its not all about the size.
