Hi, ive got a late lucas pod style rev counter, its all very 80's / 90's with flourecent coloured needle and numbers and such, (it has an adjustable rev "limiter" that basically jsut moves another fixed needle to your prefered revs.
it has a switch inside for 4, 6, 8 cylinders and it has 4 wires..
Black, Green, Yellow, Blue..
How do i go about wiring this into my 1989 Mini city E?
Please explain being basic, but i do have a good knowledge of my car and have wired up other things before (Y)
Thanks in advance, Matt.
(also, routing wires through the heater vents in the top of the dash wont do any harm will it? (when i mount the pod on top of my dash, saves me drillig holes.)

Note that this is not a stock item so the color codes do not correspond those of the Mini, nor do they fit with the RVI type Smiths shown above. I don't believe you'll find this in any Haynes manual.
With all the do-dads this tach has or offers, it will be a later voltage pules sensing gauge. However, I've never seen one with the color codes you reference. You also state this is a Lucas tach. That means it should be a Smiths underneath.
Can you remove the gauge from its pod to see if the wires are "hardwired" into the instrument or if they are attached to a terminal strip as shown in Taffy's picture?
If nothing else, contact Caerbont (on the phone if possible) and explain to them what you've got and what you're trying to do. They are what is left of Smiths.
