as said above is there anyway of knowing what needle i have in the carb? as im not sure what it will have atm as i have no history of the car and suspect the stage one was fitted prior but after hte bodge jobs the previous owner did around the rest of the mini i worry he may not have put the correct needle in, are there any ways of finding out?

Remove dashpot, and take the needle out, each needle has a 3 digit code, eg AAU, ABC etc

There's a few that are suitable assuming its a 998...AAC is a bog standard needle for a bog standard car so if stage 1 you don't want it.

AAU , AAM , AAA and possibly ABY

If you put the needle codes into this site it will show you how the fueling works for each jet.

If you've got a cone filter, freeflow or lcb manifold then go for the AAM

But the point is all those needles will work, the AAM or AAA are normally most recommended for your application. And the AAU is you are running a stage 1 using a standard airbox with a K&N type filter.

ABD is almost an identical profile to the AAU, so worth trying it first, its only a 10 min swap to change them.

If you get a flat spot then a surge with that needle, then try the AAM or AAA

...AAC is a bog standard needle

i've noticed some standard 998 come with AAP as standard needle and some others with AAC, but basically they have the same flow.

according to that mintylamb website I linked to the AAP is a lot weaker than the AAC, should think it would really strangle even a standard car.

An AAP isn't any of the needles that Haynes lists for 998's of varios years

AC ,ADE , ABX ,AAC , GX and AAV all very similar profiles
