Hi!! My girlfriends dad is a tree surgeon.

Just had a quick word with him for you, he started out being an apprentice for another Tree Surgeon. He's now self-employed.

If you have experience, you need to do your RFS course. If not, you can do a degree in arb or you can get your chainsaw, climbing and chipper training which can take anything between 2 days and a couple of weeks each. He said the best thing to do is to get in with a big company so they will hopefully pay for your training, stay with them for abit and then leave :D

He did the course at Morteon Morrell college in Warwick.

Hope that helps a little bit :)

well i have my own garden/contract maintance business and i used to work on the ground for a tree surgeon, so i would like to become one, i have done lots and lots of research on becoming one, i have found a local guy that does all the necessary courses you need, and is much cheaper than my main collages! the problem i have is being self employed the time i take of i have to let customer down and i don't get any money,

it would be great to get in with a company 2-3 days a week, but with recession i think that may be hard,

the cost of the courses together rannge from £1445-£3000 witch i can afford over time, but i am looking into the princes trust for a grant towards it as i am only 20 i mite be eligible for it,

thanks for your response does anyone no any one with any kit for sale?

sieve the whole point of tree surgery is you use ropes to not fall out lol, yes it will be a great job good pay and great views! the only down fall is (obvious out of the tree but it is classed as the most dangerous job in britain >_< )

I think the most dangerous job in britain would have to go to a gunner in the armed forces. Seem to think they are getting killes/injured at a faster rate that tree surgeons.

I can see why it would be dangerous though. Good luck with it all :D
