Someone at work has opened there car door onto my door and put a slight dent and a scratch on it. I've looked on the hire car policy and its got a £250 excess. Iam not paying them that much would a bodyshop do the repair even if its not my car.

cheers

Surely whoever did the damage should pay for it... do you know who did it?

I think there's an extra fee that you pay at the start of hiring that covers this sort of thing. I think it's a daily charge, which is capped at about £30 or something. Check whether that was included in the original agreement?

Get onto the person that dinged it. If you know it was someone at work then send an email around asking the owner of "registration" to contact you re the damage to your car as it isn't yours and you want to calim from them etc.

Name and shame i say!

I dont know who did it as there was no car there when i parked up and none there when i got back to the car the CCTV dont work in that area .but it was definatley done at work as i have only used it for work. Policy says £250 excess but have been told i could get it done for around £150 still seems steep though

£150 sounds about right, the bodyshop i use is between £100 and £150 per panel (door being one panel)

I'd fess up, it could be a right can of worms if anything goes wrong with the repair. Chances are the hire company will have access to cheaper repairs anyway and you can always argue against any deductions from the excess if you have a cheaper quote.

hi there, i am a hire manager at a local vauxhall garage.

Our excess is £500 on vehicles. However, you can take out an excess waiver charge (ours is £7.50 per day) to bring the excess down to £100.

Were you offered this ?? if not, you can argue the case that you would have taken it if offered.

the hire company will get a quote and then let you know the cost

ideally you can find out who damaged the car, but unfortunately, when they check the car back in at the rental place then they will see the damage...unless its covered in snow.....or mud....or ....

I think you'r eon dodgy ground if you arrange repairs yourself. The rental company will have approved repair centres.

I'm afraid the only thing you can do is tell them about it and argue that £250 excess seems a little steep as you've been told that the repair should only be around £150.

If you were to pay £150 for the repair but something goes wrong, then you could end up in a heap of mess for it.

How bad is the damage? If you're lucky the hire company might not notice if you don't tell them.
