Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible): Looking for advice to bench test an engine.
Good evening,
I'm looking for some advice/instruction on how to bench test an engine whilst it is out of the car. I only need to run the engine for a few mins to check everything is OK.
Could anyone give me a quick run down on what needs connecting, what kit I would need and any hints and tips.
Is it possible to run the engine for a few seconds without a carb? I've seen people spray starting fluid directly into the inlet manifold before now!
Many thanks in advance for your advice.

You mean like this
pretty simple but I reckon you'll need the carb on..
I just got a long length of clear hose, connected to the carb fuel inlet, filled it with fuel, clear was better I could see how much was in it.
Jump leads off battery, negative connected direct to starter motor solenoid housing.
then a wire from positive on the battery to positive on the coil
negative on coil goes to dizzy.
then to start I just touched the jump leads postive onto the battery terminal of the solenoid and made sure it also touched the solenoid energising terminal at same time .
fettled carb at same time.

Just point out the obvious though, make sure you have oil in, and don't run it for long with out water connected.
That engine had been stood 5 years I couldn't resist seeing if it ran.
Stripped it after, new gaskets, cleaned and painted.

Yea course, could probably run a hose pipe to it or set up a temporary pump and rad.
Next question, do you know of any cheap engines in the area?
Cheers,

Sorry mate don't, might be worth ringing Minimine see if he's got anything in.
local scrapyards might drop lucky.
We just looked on ebay and got one off there a few month ago.
