Hi guys
I have a 1275 british open on a k plate and i bought it with a stage 1 tuning kit fitted.
My question is, is there meant to be a cat fitted for the mot?
Also, is there meant to be a lambda sensor fitted? because i can't seem to find the connection/wire for it.
I'm currently having running problems where the car will start from cold but smells like it is running rich even after the choke has been pushed in.
When i switch the car off and turn it back on it wont fire up.
Plugs are soaking wet and i have to dry them off before i can restart.
Does the car have any sort of engine management? It's not single point injection.
If you could help i would very much appreciate it

It would of had a cat but that wouldn`t have done anything as there is no ECU to control the fuel, I believe there is an amendment in the MOT rule book stating it doesn`t have to be tested, sounds like you need to give the car a good service, there isn`t a lambda sensor fitted to this model.

Yes it would have had a catalyst (which do work with carburettors incidentally, they aren't electronic they're chemical and don't need an ECU in order to function). It has a carburettor that you need to have checked if it's overfuelling. Whether it will have to pass a 'cat' emissions test or not and to what standard depends on whether the model is listed in the MOT table. Someone else asked about a British Open Classic and its cat just the other day, I don't know whether he checked with his MOT garage if the car is listed but he was going to.

I think i have sorted it now.
I stripped the carb and gave it a good clean.
Also had a play with the idle speed and weekened the mixture a bit.
Plugs are not soaking now.
Just got to replace one of the sills and it's good for an mot.
Cheers for all your help guys
