My project mini (Cooper 1993 SPI) is nearing completion (hopefully).

The distributor was still connected to engine, and so was the Dizzy cap, you would presume that was the correct firing sequence - well maybe it was.

I rotated the engine until No.4 rockers were moving and identified this as TDC, (Ref Haynes for carbs) the timing marks on the crank pulley lined up a treat.

But the direction of the ROTOR arm was not at No.1, infact it is inbetween 3 and 4 of the DIZZY cap.

Now I know on Carbs its a simple case of setting this to position of No.1 plug and using strobe light set timing - easy.

But, with an SPI, do I do the same, so that its near and let the ECU do the rest. Or will the ECU automatically find No.1,
I can't believe that to be the case, but don't know any better really.

Hope this makes sense
Thanks

Sorted.
The firing order on the dizzy cap was 90 degrees out.
