hi all.

i need to get this assignment done for CAD. (not due in tomorrow by the way. first half of the week latest. i forgot about it!!! :D )

weve been asked to 'submit written evidence explaining the importance of working to recognised standards when producing engineering drawings. standardisation and maunfacturing for the global market place should be addressed with a case study to support you explinations.'

ive done all the background written work. i just cant for the life of me find a blooming example of when somethings gone wrong sue to engineers misinterperating engineering drawings.

only needs to be simple (stuff made in inches over mm for example) so i can write the rest of my report.

not asking for you to do the assignment. just help me find a case study to write about.

thank you!!!!

I think it was a Bugatti that was built oversized - workers in the UK were sent drawings from France that were in cm - the English thought the measurements were in inches so it ended up being huge!

Sounds very similar to an assignment i had to do last year. I will try and dig it out and i will post it up here tmroz if found. It would be quite hard to find an example. Generally if you make a mistake you tend not to want to shout about it.
I know that in a diff country they made an olympic swimming pool and did all the concrete work and made it 50m long. But they didn't take into account the thickness of the tiles either end. So it wasn't then 50m. And could never be used.
Are you a member of the ice as well.

moon landing nearly failed due to a + being poorly copied as a -.

Or if that doesn't help, at Delphi we designed a fuel rail bracket, and had it made perfectly, then the boss came and complained it was about 10x too big, thinking we'd wasted hours and lots of money having these parts machined.

Little did he know the rail was about 6" diameter...
