My new engine was last used with an electric fuel pump, and so the hole in the blocks had a blanking plate fitted.

The fuel pump was not included so just wondering which fuel pump i should get. The Facet electric one like this: Link Will cost me about £40 including all the extra bits you need.

But the original mechanical fuel pumps on minispares are £35 - And from minisport are £14?! So whats the huge price difference for?

If the minisport original pumps are alrite i'll just get one of them for £14 but if i need to fork out £35 for a minispares one then i may aswell get an electric one. Or will the one from my 998 be up to the job of supplying a tuned 1275?

So are there any advantages to the electric fuel pump? How are they wired in - Looks like it'd just be a live and an earth taken from something switched from the ignition?

Also another quick question - The oil feed pipe from the block to the filter - Will my 998 one fit my new 1275 MG engine?

Thanks :P

no great advantage to an electric pump really on a carb car... more hassle to be honest! - you need to fit it.. ideally supply power through an inertia switch (that trips incase of accident).. also need a regulator to lower the pressure so it doesnt overwhelm the float in the carb...

If you drive your car frequently then the electric pump has little advantage. My Mini is a weekend car and it sits for periods of time without use. With the electric pump you turn the key and wait a few seconds to refill the carb float bowls. Mechanical pumps will do that also... but only while you turn the engine over on the starter.

I cannot comment on the price/quality difference you've found with the mechanical pumps. However, since your car appears to have last used a mechanical pump, fitting a mechanical pump to your new engine will certainly be the easiest option, particularly if you haven't installed it yet.

EDIT: Icklemini and I were typing at the same time. For the record, the Facet pump you've selected does not need a regualtor, it's pressure is OK. However, the safety components he mentions are a good idea.

Ok thanks guys - I'll PM simon from minispares to see what that price difference is all about.

But the 998 and 1275 pumps are different aren't they? I can't put the fuel pump off my 998 onto the new engine when the time comes?

I suppose its always worth changing the pump anyway - As long as its not going to cost me £35!

I haven't worked on Minis with mechanical pumps but I don't think there was any difference in small bore vs large bore pumps. Others will have to address that question.

Yeah, thanks. Nice install.

I'll ask about the pumps and things - It it turns out i can just use a mechanical one - i'll stick with that for £14
