I have seen both types used on fiberglass body panels (non-Mini). My personal preference for composite panels is the second type because the part you rivet in place behind the bottom panel attaches better/firmer. The spring wire clip shown in the first link is fine for sheet metal but over time I've seen them work loose on fiberglass panels.

But generally would the spring wire clip would be affixed to whatever the f/glass front was being locked onto - usually a steel or alloy bracket rather than another f/glass piece?

With the second type - what holds the quarter turn fastener to the outer panel? Or is it free to get lost? With no metal flange as per the first example I would expect it to damage, if not pull through, the f/glass panel.

I agree GreameC type one, fit spring to metal bracket, I do not know about the others looks like the head has not got a plate to spread the load.
some duzs fasteners on ebay are copies which are ok but some are not cut deap enough in the slot and are a pain to undo.

I didn't want anything showing on the outside of my flip front so used latches such as these suitcase type latches.

Fix one half to the front, one too the A-panel, have some sort of seal in-between that the front can squeeze onto.

Mine work really well :shifty:

I see GraemeC's point. I had not considered that on the flip-front Mini the spring would be riveted to metal. Again, my experience has been with two fiberglass panels held together.

You are also correct that the second type of Dzus has a completely removable fastener. You do have to be careful not to lose them... or carry spares with you. They don't damage the panel particularly but you have to locate the through-hole for them accurately during initial installation.
