I have a 1986 unmodified Mini 1000 Park Lane. When the carburettor was taken off to carry out repairs, fuel continued to come out of the fuel supply pipe and drip onto the insulation in the engine compartment. The ignition was turned off and, because the carburettor had been removed, the engine was not running. I thought that the fuel pump on this model would only operate when the engine was running. That being the case, can anyone explain why this might be happening?

Has anybody else experienced this?

its due to the petrol level in the tank being higher that the end of the pipe it will run out till they are the same level. as above put a bolt in it or something.
