Just remembered something i meant to ask a while ago.

My brakes went spongy and required the pedal to be pumped a couple of times before the pedal went really hard and started biting at the top - where it normally does.

So i adjusted the rear brakes. The drivers side drum took about 1 full turn on the adjuster before it started to bite. But the passenger side needed adjusting loads! I must have turned the adjuster about 5-6 full turns.

This sorted the problem out breifly - The brake pedal was hard and the brakes were at full power. But after probably 15-20 miles of driving the pedal was spongy again.

I've not taken the drums off since owning the car - Just took the owners word for it when he said it'd had new shoes fitted. Theres also no fluid leaking from the drums as far as i can see - i.e. theres not a pool of it on the drive...

So whats causing this. Could it just be air in the system or what?

My cars coming off the road soon to have some more work done - So will have time to get all the little problems sorted out.

It could be a possibility that the thread where the adjuster screw in is knackered of the adjuster thread itself is no good. I had the very same problem with mine a year or so back which caused very similar problems to yourself.

There was just enough thread to bite to adjust the brakes up but after pressing the brake pedal a few times it worked the adjuster back out.
Once the springs and shoes were taken off i could wiggle the adjuster right out.

So may just be worth checking everything is ok with the adjusters.
