Heater Valve

right i have a 1994 a+ mini engine with in line heater valve but iv been told to ditch the valve and and drill the head and fit an old valve. can anyone tell me the best thing to do and why.

Personally, I have owned mini's with both types of heater valve.

I do prefer the later remote type due to two previous minis problems with the head mounted type.
One seized up and trying to coax some movement into it, the rod detatched from the 'valve' inside.
The other just continually leaked water when it got hot and under pressure(dripping).

To date, I haven't had any problems with the later remote ones on either my son's '92 Sprite or my '90 Racing Green.

Why did this person tell you to change the valves?

He said something about piston no 4 over heating if you use the later type.
